DRI Committees

Joining any of DRI’s 29 committees is a great way to network with defense attorneys in your area(s) of practice from across the country beyond. Practice areas range from Appellate Advocacy and Alternative Dispute Resolution, to Employment and Labor Law to Product Liability and Workers’ Compensation. If you practice area is more narrowly focused, a number of the committees have “specialized litigation groups” (SLGs) within their structure. The SLGs are structured to mirror the larger committees and provide the same opportunities for leadership and networking, but on a more focused level.

There are also committees dedicated to non-substantive areas such as the Corporate Counsel (members must meet DRI’s definition of in-house counsel), Diversity, Women in the Law and the Young Lawyers committees. The DRI International Committee membership expands beyond the 50 states to Canada, Europe and the Pacific Rim. In this ever-changing global legal landscape, having resources from around the world is no longer a convenience, but a necessity.

DRI Committees provide members with opportunities to serve in leadership positions within the committee structure and through participating in seminars. Whether it is planning, marketing, speaking on the program or serving as a newsletter editor or membership chair, you will be working with dedicated and involved committee members to achieve DRI’s goal of providing top-notch seminars and written resources for civil and corporate defense attorneys.

Do you like to write? There are a number of publishing opportunities are also available to committee members through a variety of mediums. In addition to DRI’s periodicals, For The Defense and In-House Defense Quarterly, most of DRI’s committees produce their own electronic newsletters and provide content for DRI Today, the DRI Blog and The Court Reporter.

In an effort to provide more comprehensive information on a variety of subjects, DRI committees provide content for the Defense Library Series. These publications range from 50-state compendiums to collections of articles on a given topic. In 2011, DRI committee members produced five such publications that are available for purchase on the website to the general public.
