Diane Fleming Averell

Diane Fleming Averell is a principal of Porzio Bromberg & Newman PC in Morristown, New Jersey. Her practice focuses on product liability, toxic tort, and mass tort litigation. Over the last decade, she has defended products ranging from over-the-counter and prescription pharmaceuticals to personal care products, cosmetics, industrial chemicals, petroleum products, handheld power equipment, and tobacco products. In 2018, Ms. Averell was recognized as one of NJBiz's Best Fifty Women in Business. Ms. Averell serves as the Chair of DRI's Women in the Law Committee.


James R. (Jay) Courie

James R. (Jay) Courie is a Founding Member and the Managing Member of MGC. He represents businesses and individuals in a variety of matters including contract negotiations, employment matters, business development and strategic planning. As Managing Member, Jay devotes much of his time and energy to the evolving business of law. He is a frequent speaker on Law Firm Management topics including metrics, growth, governance, alternative fees and strategic planning. Jay also leads a dedicated team of lawyers and professionals at MGC Sports, representing both coaches and players in team negotiations, endorsement opportunities and NCAA matters. Jay is an NFL Players Association certified agent, as well as a member of the Sports Lawyers Association. In his spare time, Jay can be found cheering on the Clemson Tigers and spending time with his three children.


Claire Eagan

Claire Eagan has been with Uber Technologies since August 2016 and currently oversees all high exposure cases and claims in the northeast region of the United States while providing insurance litigation advice and perspective to the business to help inform Uber's safety policies, tech developments, and messaging. She actively manages the tri-part relationship between Uber, its insurance partners, and outside defense counsel in order to ensure efficient claims management and litigation handling with consistency within her own region and nationwide. Prior to joining the ever-growing legal team at Uber, Claire worked in private practice in Chicago, Illinois where she focused on insurance defense and insurance coverage litigation with clients ranging from small local businesses to global brands.


Thomas J. Hurney, Jr.

Thomas J. Hurney, Jr. has been defending businesses, health care providers and individuals for over thirty five years with Jackson Kelly PLLC. He has substantial experience litigating and trying serious injury and wrongful death actions related to various industries from coal to power to health care. He has frequently argued in the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. Tom is the President of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, a member of the DRI Board of Directors and a past President of the Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia. He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and member of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He graduated with honors from the University of Dayton School of Law in 1983. At Jackson Kelly, Tom has chaired the firm's Litigation and Health Care groups and the Associates' Committee, and is currently on the firm's Compensation Committee. He is a frequent speaker on healthcare, trial practice and litigation and civil justice reform issues.

William J. Josten is the Manager of Legal Industry Analytics for the Thomson Reuters Legal Executive Institute. Bill's work focuses primarily on issues related to law firm profitability and law firm/client relationships. During his time with Thomson Reuters, Bill has also worked as a pricing and profitability consultant, helping firms evaluate their cost recovery strategy, and providing insight into some of the innovative approaches firms are using to change the ways costs are recovered and matters are priced. Bill has worked in account management for large law firms and as a Reference Attorney, and prior to joining Thomson Reuters, Bill was an attorney in private practice as well as a law clerk at the Minnesota Court of Appeals.

Mark Lanterman

Mark Lanterman is the Chief Technology Officer of Computer Forensic Services. Before entering the private sector, Mark was a member of the U. S. Secret Service Electronic Crimes Taskforce. Mark has 28 years of security and forensic experience and has testified in over 2000 cases. Mark is faculty for the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, D.C., the National Judicial College in Reno, Nevada, the University of Minnesota and the Mitchell Hamline Law School. Mark is also a professor in the cybersecurity program at the St. Thomas School of Law in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mark completed his postgrad studies in cybersecurity at Harvard University and is certified as a Seized Computer Evidence Recovery Specialist (SCERS) by the Department of Homeland Security. Mark is a member of the Minnesota Lawyers Professional Responsibility Board.

Joy H. Rush

Joy H. Rush was recently named the Chief Executive Officer of the International Legal Technology Association. Throughout her career, Ms. Rush has leveraged technology to support and advance the practice of law. After more than three decades serving in a variety of technology roles at Global 20 firm Sidley Austin, she joined Litera Microsystems in 2014 as Vice President of Client Development. She has been a volunteer leader in a number of legal technology organizations, including ALISM, and the Washington Perfectionists, and she was a member of both the WordPerfect and Microsoft Legal Advisory Councils. Joy is a regular speaker and writer on a variety of leadership and technology issues.

She received a Master's of Science in Tax Accounting from the University of New Orleans in 1981 and a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Tulane University in 1979. She authored the 2013 AICPA Practice Aid Measuring Damages Involving Individuals and was one of the co-authors of the 2015 AICPA Practice Aid Attaining Reasonable Certainty in Economic Damages Calculations.
