2:35 p.m. Vaping and COVID-19 - Plausibility and Causation

COVID-19 is primarily a respiratory disease. Vaping involves drawing air into the lungs. It was therefore only a matter of time before people asked whether vaping might increase susceptibility to or severity of COVID-19. However, the newness of COVID-19, and our limited understanding of its epidemiology and mechanisms, raise the question as to whether there is an actual connection between the exposure and the disease. Plaintiffs’ lawyers may suggest the relationship is plausible, but will they be able to show it is causal? We will also hear about the latest developments in COVID-19 vaccines, and how the Biden administration’s approach on this front might differ from that of the Trump administration.
