About the Committee
The Insurance Law Committee (“ILC”) is one of DRI’s largest and most active committees and is the resource for professionals whose careers are devoted to or influenced by insurance. The biggest issue in insurance now is the frequency
and severity of claims post-Pandemic. Social inflation, court docket clog and the ability to try a case, bad faith setups, consumer protection statutes, industry succession planning and employee turnover, and the use and influence of artificial intelligence
and other emerging technology, are among the many issues keeping the insurance industry and outside counsel up at night. The Insurance Law Committee provides an opportunity to educate oneself about cutting-edge issues, see what is creeping into your
jurisdiction, and brainstorm and share information with colleagues about what they are doing to best protect the interests of our carrier employers and clients.
The ILC’s two signature seminars, the Insurance Coverage and Claims Institute in Chicago (which takes place in early spring) and the Insurance Coverage and Practice Symposium in New York (which takes place in December), are industry-known for world
class presentations on cutting edge insurance issues put on by leaders in the field. The ILC is also holds a biennial Bad Faith and Extra-Contractual Liability seminar, which features presentations on the latest trends and strategies impacting bad
faith litigation from nationally renowned trial counsel. These seminars are known for their unmatched networking opportunities for all members of the insurance community, including with prominent in-house and outside counsel from around the country.
The ILC has earned an industry-leading reputation for its publications. Existing resources include 50-state surveys and compendiums which overview the law nationally on hot-topic insurance issues with titles including Writing a Reservation of Rights: A North American Compendium,
Professional Liability Insurance, Excess and Umbrella Insurance, Coverage B: Personal and Advertising Injury, Bad Faith, and Duty to Defend.
The ILC’s online community is the place where our members can access all things insurance coverage and claims 24/7/365, and provides members with the opportunity on a daily basis to post articles, share expert witness information, blog, and ask
and answer insurance-related questions. Through its educational offerings, publications, and unique networking opportunities, the ILC is an indispensable resource for the insurance industry and outside counsel alike.
There are no shortages of opportunities for our members to become actively involved in the ILC as speakers, authors, editors, and otherwise. If you are looking to advance your career in insurance or want to be actively involved in one of DRI’s largest
and most active committees, we invite you to join the ILC today.
