Head-In-The-Sand Approach is a Poor Strategy

CHICAGO (July 27, 2017)—Few professions have a bigger stake in cybersecurity than the legal profession. Think of everything that is maintained by law firms in electronic files and storage. Now, think of posting all of it online for public access: litigation strategies, client documents, finances, privileged communications, personnel information – all-of-it – available to your opponents, competitors, and the media. A cybercriminal’s motives lie in theft, havoc, revenge, financial profit, discrediting individual attorneys or whole firms, and undermining the confidence of clients. And you may be contributing to your own downfall if you don’t have a plan, a program, the personnel, the software, or the equipment to deal with a data breach.

On September 7-8, 2017, DRI – The Voice of the Defense Bar will conduct the seminar “Cybersecurity and Data Privacy: Understanding Risks and How to Mitigate Them.” The seminar will be held at The Westin on Michigan Avenue in Chicago and will include two networking receptions.

A broad range of topics will be covered that will leave you better informed of cyber-threats and how to deal with them.

  • The Ethical, Privacy, and Legal Implications of Connected Devices
  • Oh, the Places You(r Information) Will Go!
  • Trends in Cyberinsurance Coverage
  • The Future of Global Privacy
  • Emerging Security Threats
  • How Walmart and Facebook Deal With Cybersecurity and Privacy Challenges
  • Cybercrime Trends, Enforcement Priorities and Actions From Justice Department Counsel

And to deal with perhaps a business or firm’s greatest vulnerability, its employees, there will be a session on “Effective Employee Policies.” There is also a practical application session, “The Anatomy of a Data Breach,” that will guide attendees through a data breach incident cycle with real-life scenarios.

The seminar brochure and registration materials can be obtained here. Those who register on or before August 9th will receive a $100 discount.
