BRC
Spinal Findings, Distinguishing Acute Versus Degenerative in Order to Cross-Examine Treating Physicians and Experts

This presentation focuses on strategies for distinguishing degenerative spinal findings from acute traumatic injuries on advanced imaging (primarily MRI), equipping attorneys to effectively cross-examine treating physicians and expert witnesses. The prevalence of spinal degenerative findings in the population and scientific studies regarding the forces needed for acute spinal structural trauma will be examined. Causation methodology will be reviewed to develop effective deposition questions.

J.S. Held
Video Analysis, Photogrammetry, and 3D Visualization in Trucking Cases

In this interactive session, attendees will learn how video tracking and analysis performed in a 3D environment can be utilized to create visualizations that demonstrate both how the analysis was performed and the conclusions that were reached. This information will be useful to help bolster defenses in various trucking-related matters.

MythBusters: Trucking Edition – Busting the Misconceptions in Heavy Truck Accidents

This presentation introduces an interactive, station-based experience designed to challenge and clarify the most common misconceptions surrounding heavy truck accidents. Attendees will rotate through hands-on stations that demonstrate how braking systems function, how to interpret EDR data from damaged speedometers, and how physical evidence can either confirm or debunk commonly argued accident myths.

Through this interactive session, attendees will: Understand how commercial air brake systems function using an operational brake system training machine; Learn how passenger vehicle EDR data is captured and interpreted; Recognize how physical evidence either confirms or contradicts prevailing accident narratives.

This presentation will equip attorneys with the technical insight and practical tools necessary to confidently evaluate and challenge trucking claims. By combining hands on demonstrations th real-world applications, attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of braking systems, EDR data, and the scientific principles that often determine case outcomes.

Evidence Solutions Inc.
Truck Accident Cases: Compliance Issues & the Data Trail Left Behind

This presentation will be an interactive session that covers compliance issues that often occur in trucking defense cases. Our multidisciplinary approach also covers the digital evidence sources and issues that are often buried in these cases. We encourage participants to bring past or current cases that involve regulatory compliance issues and digital evidence so that our experts can provide insights on factors that might have been overlooked or a case approach that might not have been considered. Have a question regarding human factors? Our expert will be on standby to answer your human factors-related questions.

Part 1: Regulatory Compliance Education for Trucking Defense Cases

Topics Covered Include:

  • Driver Qualification File; Hours of Service Regulations & Exceptions; Driver Vetting & Training; Small Fleet Rules; How these factors impact Trucking Defense Cases

Part 2: The Data Trail Left Behind

Digital Evidence Sources

  • Cell phones: CDR records, Data Usage that could point to distraction, GPS & Location Data; Dashcams; Electronic Logging Devices: Falsification

Digital Evidence Issues

  • Spoliation: how to navigate this and find other data sources; Request for Production of Data: How your expert can help you find the evidence needed in your case; Data Retention Protocols to Consider

ESi (Engineering Systems Inc.)
AEB Systems: Intended Function and Limitations

This session explores the sensor technologies used in Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) systems. Attendees will be introduced to the fundamental engineering principles behind the design and operation of these systems, along with an overview of proper calibration and maintenance requirements. Participants will engage with an interactive display demonstrating how and where sensors are mounted on trucks, how they integrate with the braking system, and how they function in real world applications. Examples will be presented showing situations in which AEB systems operate as designed, as well as scenarios that fall outside their intended design parameters. The objective of this presentation is to provide attendees with a clear understanding of the conditions AEB systems are designed to address—and those they are not.

YA Group
Trucks and the ADAS Systems that Help Drive Them

Transportation incorporates advanced driver assistance systems to assist and ultimately drive these vehicles. These systems rely on radar, lidar, cameras, and sensors to gather information that is used to, in a split second, engage the throttle, apply the brakes, turn the steering wheel, and operate other driver inputs. In this presentation, we will demonstrate the systems involved, potential risks, and best practices related when investigating vehicles equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) that are driving innovation towards autonomous trucks.

Logica Ratio
From Medical Bills to Case Value: How to Reduce Claim Exposure Using Billing Intelligence and Medical Expertise

In today’s personal injury landscape, medical billing often drives claim value. Yet many defense strategies fail to fully challenge the reasonableness of medical charges or leverage medical expertise early enough to meaningfully impact outcomes. This session presents a practical, data-driven framework for deconstructing medical bills and translating clinical insights into measurable reductions in claim exposure. Attendees will learn how to identify inflated charges using objective benchmarks, including CMS reimbursement data, commercial payer datasets, and physician-informed usual, customary, and reasonable (UCR) ranges. The session will also demonstrate how early alignment between medical experts and litigation strategy can reshape case narratives, strengthen cross-examination, and improve settlement positioning.

Not Your Kid’s Bike: Litigation Issues When Your Truck Encounters an e-Bike

Collisions between commercial vehicles and electric bicycles (“e-bikes”) are increasing, especially in dense urban corridors. A growing subset of poorly identified, high-powered e-bikes operates in a regulatory “gray zone”: they may look like conventional bicycles yet perform more like electric motorcycles, including throttle-only operation and speeds that can exceed typical statutory thresholds (often 20 to 25 mph, depending on jurisdiction). Post-crash vehicle identification is frequently complicated by the absence of a Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) and unclear or altogether missing make and model information. This presentation outlines practical, inspection-based methods to characterize an e-bike’s likely class and performance, including documentation of battery and motor markings, controlled wheel speed and/or power testing, and indicators that a factory speed limiter has been bypassed. We then connect these findings to litigation-relevant analyses in trucking cases, including liability and regulatory compliance, accident reconstruction and speed estimation, biomechanics and injury severity at higher operating speeds, and human factors issues such as expectation violations when a “bicycle-like” vehicle moves at motorcycle-like speeds or enters the roadway from sidewalks or pedestrian paths.
